Organisation seeks 80% priority for local youth, immediate revival of long-pending L1-L2 recruitment, better Apollo Hospital facilities and development of affected villages; warns of phased democratic agitation if demands remain unaddressed
Bacheli/Dantewada, September 11: Raising a strong voice for local rights, employment, healthcare, education and development in mining-affected areas, the Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission organised a large motorcycle rally in Bacheli and submitted a memorandum to the NMDC Kirandul-Bacheli management through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bacheli.
The rally witnessed the participation of thousands of workers and supporters, who highlighted issues concerning local communities and urged NMDC to take concrete steps for the welfare of local residents and affected families.
Demand for 80% Priority to Local Youth
One of the key demands raised in the memorandum was 80% priority for local indigenous youth in contract and outsourcing works. The organisation emphasised that local people and affected families should receive a meaningful share of employment opportunities generated by industrial and mining activities in the region.
Immediate Start of Pending L1-L2 Recruitment Process
The organisation also demanded the immediate commencement of the NMDC L1-L2 recruitment process, which it stated has remained pending for nearly two years.
Bhim Army said the prolonged delay has caused disappointment among unemployed local youth and urged the management to expedite the recruitment process and provide employment opportunities to eligible candidates.
Better Healthcare Facilities at Apollo Hospital, Bacheli
Healthcare was another major focus of the memorandum. The organisation demanded improved facilities at Apollo Hospital, Bacheli, the appointment of specialist doctors and the installation of modern medical equipment.
It also sought better treatment facilities for local villagers suffering from serious illnesses, along with the expansion and modernisation of healthcare services at NMDC hospitals.
Free Education, Competitive Exam Coaching and CSR Development
The memorandum further called for free education facilities and PSC/UPSC coaching for local students.
Bhim Army also demanded that NMDC accelerate development works in affected villages through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with greater attention to education, healthcare and other basic amenities.
October 10 Deadline, Phased Agitation Warned
The organisation has sought concrete and positive action on its demands by October 10, 2026.
Bhim Army warned that if the demands are not addressed within the stipulated timeframe, it will undertake a phased agitation through democratic and constitutional means.
The organisation said the memorandum reflects the concerns of local residents, mining-affected villagers and surrounding communities, and asserted that companies operating in the region must fulfil their social and regional responsibilities.
